Forty five doctors of Bangladesh Medical University, who had suffered years of promotion deprivation and discrimination under a previous administration, have donated 25 wheelchairs to the university’s hospital.
The handover ceremony was held on BMU campus on Saturday.
These doctors, who recently had their promotions restored by the current administration following a High Court writ, chose to contribute to patient welfare, said a press release.
BMU acting vice-chancellor Professor Md Shahinul Alam praised the gesture, stating that those who work in both favourable and unfavourable times were the real leaders.
He also expressed firm belief that such unity would elevate BMU to become one of Asia’s premier medical universities, dedicated to service, research, and producing specialist doctors for the nation.
BMU pro-vice-chancellor for administration Professor Md Abul Kalam Azad, pro-vice-chancellor for research and development Professor Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader, director for hospital Brigadier General Irtika Rahman, Associate Professor Md Shahidul Islam, and associate professor of neurosurgery department Md Ruhul Quddus Biplob, among others, spoke.
BMU director for finance and accounts Khondoker Shofiqul Hasan, associate professor of haematology department Md Adnan Hasan Masud, associate professor of physical medicine department Md Abul Kalam Azad, associate professor of rheumatology department Md Abul Kalam Azad, deputy director for hospital Sharif Md Ariful Haque and others were present.
