The Appellate Division on Wednesday rejected an application filed by Cumilla-4 BNP candidate Manzurul Ahsan Munshi seeking to lift its earlier stay on a High Court decision that asked the authorities not to include his name on the list of loan defaulters.

Following the apex court’s January 8 stay order, Bangladesh Bank included Manzurul’s name in the loan defaulter list.

The chamber judge, however, advised Manzurul’s lawyer to have the rule heard and disposed of by the High Court.

On December 8, 2025, the High Court issued the stay order on a petition filed by Manzurul, three days before the announcement of the election schedule on December 11.

The High Court had directed Bangladesh Bank not to include Munshi’s name in the Credit Information Bureau list.

Manzurul’s lawyer, Saifullah Mamun, said that his client sought vacation of the chamber judge’s stay, arguing that the loan had been rescheduled after the stay order issued on January 8.

The national election is scheduled for February 12.

In a revision petition, Manzurul challenged a November 5, 2025 order of the Dhaka Fifth Joint District Judge’s Court, which rejected his plea seeking a directive not to list him as a loan defaulter.

He argued that his company is negotiating a settlement of the defaulted loan.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission is scheduled to hear an appeal on Saturday filed by Manzurul’s rival candidate and National Citizen Party nominee, Hasnat Abdullah, challenging Munshi’s candidacy.

Manzurul Ahsan Munshi, managing director of MAM Power Limited, is contesting the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election for Cumilla-4 as a BNP candidate.

His company allegedly owes about Tk 88 crore to Premier Bank and more than Tk 12 crore to IDLC Finance Limited.

Lawyer Mohammad Hossain represented IDLC while lawyer Bivuti Tarofder appeared for Premier Bank.
