The Institute of Internal Auditors Bangladesh (IIAB) organised its Annual Conference 2026 on Saturday at the Sheraton Dhaka Hotel, Banani, focusing on the evolving role of internal audit in a technology-driven and uncertain business environment.

The conference was held under the theme “Future-Ready Assurance: Elevating Governance Through AI, Risk and Control”.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, attended the conference as the chief guest.

Barrister Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, MP, chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Ministry; Masud Khan FCA, chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC); and Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, chairman of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), attended as special guests.

The inaugural session was presided over by M Nurul Alam, president of IIA Bangladesh.

The day-long conference featured three technical sessions addressing key challenges and opportunities for the internal audit profession.

The first session, titled “Intelligent Auditor Leveraging AI for Risk & Control and the Future of Internal Audit”, explored the growing impact of artificial intelligence and technology on audit and assurance.

The second session, “Risk-Based Auditing Reimagined: Assurance to Advisory”, focused on the evolving role of internal audit in providing risk-focused assurance and advisory services.

The third session, “Risk in Focus: Navigating Uncertainty”, examined emerging risks and the need for forward-looking risk management and assurance.

A panel discussion titled “Beyond Compliance: How Internal Audit Drives Business Value and Strategic Growth” explored how internal audit can move beyond traditional compliance activities to support strategic decision-making, organisational resilience and sustainable business growth.

The conference emphasised the importance of embracing technology, strengthening risk and control frameworks, and enhancing the strategic contribution of internal audit to effective governance and organisational performance.

The event was attended by business leaders, regulators, directors and around 250 internal audit professionals.

The conference reaffirmed IIAB’s commitment to advancing the internal audit profession in Bangladesh and promoting stronger governance, transparency, accountability and sustainable organisational growth.
