Different political parties in Bangladesh on Sunday condemned the United States and Israeli attacks on Iran and the killing of the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The leaders of the parties, in separate protest rallies, processions and statements in Dhaka, described the strikes as violations of international law, threats to regional stability, and a danger to global peace.
They also called for an immediate halt to the attacks and urged the Bangladesh government and the international community to take decisive action and show solidarity with Iran.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader since 1989, was killed during the first wave of a large-scale US and Israeli attack on Iran, which continued into Sunday.
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, in a protest rally at the north gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka on Sunday, condemned the attacks on Iran by the US and Israel and the killings of Khamenei and senior military officials.
Jamaat nayeeb-e-amir ATM Azharul Islam, addressing the demonstration, urged the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to take initiatives to stop the conflict.
A procession was followed.
Jamaat amir Shafiqur Rahman, in a Facebook post on Sunday, expressed deep shock at the death of the supreme leader of Iran.
Shafiqur warned that any further escalation towards military conflict could have devastating consequences, not just for a single country, but for the entire region.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh amir Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim on Sunday strongly condemned the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and a direct affront to the established world order.
Expressing concern over the broader implications, Rezaul Karim, in a statement on Sunday, warned that the US-Israeli involvement in such acts of violence threatened to ignite the entire Middle East, with repercussions that would be felt globally.
The Communist Party of Bangladesh, at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, called on the US and Israeli governments to halt the attacks immediately and resolve the crisis with Iran through dialogue and urged all political parties in Bangladesh to oppose the conflict. A protest procession was followed.
The Khelafat Majlis, in a protest rally in front of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Sunday, strongly condemned the US-Israeli airstrike on Iran, urged the Bangladesh government to bring a motion against the attack in the first session of the National Parliament and to issue a strong protest against the US and Israel.
The party secretary general Ahmad Abdul Kader, expressing solidarity with the Iranian people, urged peace-loving nations to stand beside Iran to resist American domination and confront Israel.
The Jatiya Ganatantrik Front and the Revolutionary Communist League held separate protest rallies in front of the National Press Club, condemning and protesting at the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran.
The Workers Party of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Jasod and the Democratic Revolutionary Party, in separate statements, condemned the attacks and urged the US and Israeli governments to stop the assaults.
