A 55-year-old security guard was killed in a road accident in the capital's Motijheel area this afternoon.

The victim is Ruhul Amin Sheikh, of Nandasagar village in Gazipur's Sreepur.

He worked as a security guard at Sabujbagh Kadamtala Purbo Bashabo School and College and was living in the Purba Basabo area of Sabujbagh.

The incident occurred around 1:00pm in front of the Kamalapur BRTC counter when a bus on Route 6 hit him while he was crossing the road, police said, quoting the victim's son, Shakil.

On information, a team from Motijheel police went to the scene, recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy at 2:40pm.

Police said the driver of the bus, along with the vehicle, was detained shortly after the incident.
