Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal has expelled around 300 leaders and activists across the country for activities deemed contrary to the organisation’s ideals, its President Abdul Monayem Munna announced today.
Speaking at a press conference at a hotel in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, Munna said criminal cases had also been filed against many of those expelled to protect the organisation’s reputation and principles. The press conference was organised to brief the media on “current politics and future work plans.”
Munna mentioned that disciplinary action had also been withdrawn against some individuals after further investigation.
“We want to clearly say that no person or group will get the chance to carry out illegal activities by using the name of the organisation,” he said in a written statement.
General Secretary Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan, Senior Vice-President Rezaul Kabir Paul, Joint General Secretary Billal Hossain Tarek, Organising Secretary Kamruzzaman Jewel, and other central leaders were present.
Munna outlined the organisation’s disciplinary process, noting that union-level cases are handled by district committees, while offences involving upazila or district-level leaders are dealt with by the central body. He added that law enforcement and intelligence agencies are also engaged in investigations.
Referring to the recent arrest of Jubo Dal leader Shamim Mia in Narayanganj's Rupganj, in an arms case, Munna said Shamim had been expelled after the allegations were initially found true.
Munna claimed many of those accused are no longer involved in Jubo Dal politics. He cited an extortion complaint from kidney specialist Dr Kamrul Islam, saying the organisation took the matter seriously and assisted the victim. The accused, once linked to Jubo Dal, has since been arrested and jailed.
Addressing dissatisfaction among leaders excluded from the new central committee, Munna explained that the previous committee had 251 members, while the new one has 151. “So naturally, 100 people were left out,” he said, adding that appointments were based on contributions to movements, cases faced, and time spent in jail.
On allegations that a murder case accused received a post in the new committee, Munna said he was unaware, noting that false and politically motivated cases also exist.
General Secretary Nayan dismissed reports of heated disputes at Jubo Dal meetings, saying differences of opinion remain within decency. “No one ever crosses the limit. Such information is not true,” he said.
