Alongside acting, Chanchal Chowdhury is also known for his singing. At almost any event, he is often requested to perform a song. He has also been seen covering popular songs by various artists.

Now, for the first time, Chanchal Chowdhury has sung for a Kolkata film. His voice will be heard in Bratya Basu’s film “Shekor”. This marks Chanchal’s debut as a playback singer in a movie.

Chanchal has recorded two songs for the film “Shekor”. The production house Friends Communication shared the update on social media yesterday.

Posting two photos from the studio featuring Chanchal Chowdhury rehearsing with music director Prabuddha Banerjee, the production company wrote on Facebook, “ ‘Shekor’ is an eternal love story by Bratya Basu. Post-production work is now in full swing. For this film, Chanchal Chowdhury has recorded multiple songs under the musical arrangement of Prabuddha Banerjee. With this film, Chanchal is making his debut in Tollywood as a playback singer.”

Chanchal Chowdhury told Ajker Patrika that he has re-recorded two popular Baul songs for the film “Shekor”. One is Bijoy Sarkar’s “Ei Prithibi Jemon Ache Temni Thik Robe” and the other is Gostho Gopal Das’s “O Jibon Re Chhariya Na Jao More.”

It was Chanchal himself who suggested the idea of using the songs in the film. Speaking about the incident, the actor said, “The two songs have been used in the film in harmony with the story. While we were shooting, I felt that the scenes would work better with songs. I asked the director whether any songs would be used there. When he agreed, I suggested these two songs. He decided to include both, but on the condition that I would sing them myself. Later, after finishing the dubbing, I recorded my vocals for the two tracks.”

“Shekor” is being made based on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s short stories “Drabomoyir Kashibas and Dadu”. Chanchal Chowdhury has played a key role in the film. In “Shekor”, his character is named Indra, a factory worker whose father suffers from memory loss. Chanchal Chowdhury’s own father had also faced a similar condition before his death. The actor said this personal connection was one of the reasons that drew him to work in the film.

Chanchal Chowdhury has acted under the direction of West Bengal actor, politician, and filmmaker Bratya Basu for the first time. Earlier, Bratya Basu directed two films, “Dictionary” and “Hubba”, featuring Mosharraf Karim. Chanchal completed the shooting for “Shekor” in October last year. The film also stars Loknath Dey, Seema Biswas, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Riddhi Sen, Angana Roy, and Anasuya Majumdar, among others. The film is scheduled to be released this year.
