A schoolgirl was injured after allegedly being shot by unidentified assailants in Rupsha embankment area of Khulna city on Friday evening.
The victim, Ety, 17, is a class ten student of Rupsha Secondary School and daughter of Zulfikar Rahman of the same area. She is now undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital, police said.
Quoting local residents, a police officer requesting anonymity said Ety was standing in front of her house around 8:00pm when three assailants arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly opened fire, hitting her in the leg before fleeing.
However, Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khulna Police Station, said police found no clear evidence of a shooting after visiting the scene.
“Locals said they did not hear any gunshots. We are investigating the incident to determine what exactly happened,” he said.
He confirmed that a girl named Ety was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital with a bullet wound to her left leg and is receiving treatment.
