Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Kushtia 3 Mufti Amir Hamza has been fined Tk 10,000 for the violation of the electoral code of conduct.
In case of his failure to pay the fine, he was to face six days’ imprisonment, three days for each violation.
The fine, however, was subsequently paid. Joint district and sessions judge M Abdul Hai handed down the verdict on Tuesday.
The case followed two complaints filed by Rashed Ahmed of Shantidanga under the Islamic University police area on Sunday.
The complaints alleged that banners promoting Amir Hamza at Majampur Gate lacked the name and address of the printing press and the date of printing, which violated the regulations.
Rashed Ahmed, the complainant, said that he was satisfied with the verdict, but noted that the banners and posters had still been in place. He added that the matter had been reported to the returning officer.
