Model, actress and lawyer Peya Jannatul has spoken in support of the spirit of the Liberation War and called for dignity and equality following the 13th parliamentary election.
In a Facebook post shared after the polls, Peya emphasised the continued relevance of the ideals of 1971, amid public discussions surrounding the election and campaign rhetoric.
“Right after the 13th Parliament election, one truth stands stronger than ever — 1971 matters. The Liberation War matters. The spirit, sacrifice, and dignity that gave us our independent Bangladesh must always remain at the heart of our national conscience,” she wrote.
She also expressed concern over language used about women during the campaign period.
“As a woman, I cannot ignore how alarming it feels when any political force speaks about women in a degrading or disrespectful way. The language used today shapes the reality of tomorrow,” she added.
Clarifying her position, Peya stated that her remarks were not affiliated with any political party but reflected her personal convictions.
“I want to clearly say — I am not from any political party. I simply love my country. I stand for women. I stand for humanity. I stand for dignity, equality, and progress. As a responsible citizen, I will always hope for leadership that honours the values of 1971 and ensures safety, respect, and opportunity for every Bangladeshi,” she wrote.
