Ten Bangladeshis, who went missing after a boat capsized in the Padma river in Alimnagar Ghat area of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila today, have been rescued from Indian waters by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

However, another person who was on the boat remained missing, said Lt Col Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh’s BGB-53 Chapainawabganj Battalion.

Around 5:30pm today, a boat carrying 11 passengers set off from Alimnagar Ghat for Narayanpur union. After some time, the boat sank in the middle of the Padma river.

At that time, 10 people on board were swept away by the strong current into Indian waters. The BSF later rescued them.

Lt Col Kazi Mustafizur said the BSF had informed the BGB about the rescue of the 10 people. A flag meeting is being arranged to bring them back to Bangladesh.

The rescued persons will be received at Faridpur Border Outpost (BOP) tonight.

Efforts are underway to rescue the person who remains missing, he added.
