The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to investigate allegations of irregularities and corruption in recruitment, transfers and promotions at the Ministry of Youth and Sports involving Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, who served as an adviser to the ministry during the interim government.

The commission has formed a four-member team to investigate the allegations, ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam told reporters at a press conference today.

The allegations also involve former Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary Md Mahbub-ul-Alam, former Joint Secretary Sheikh Mohammad Zobayer Hossain and Deputy Secretary Md Masum Ahmed, he said.

According to the complaint, Asif allegedly engaged in corruption in recruitment, transfer and promotion-related activities while serving as the ministry's adviser.

The complaint alleges that Tk 76 lakh was taken in exchange for cancelling the existing responsibilities of 38 upazila youth development officers and issuing new posting orders.

It further alleges that Tk 1.5 crore was taken in connection with the promotion of 150 assistant upazila youth development officers, while another Tk two crore was allegedly collected to secure postings at preferred locations following their promotions.

The complaint also names several officials of the Department of Youth Development in connection with the alleged irregularities, including Mahbub-ul-Alam, Zobayer Hossain, Masum Ahmed and several others.

A four-member inquiry team is being led by ACC Deputy Director Md Zahid Kalam. Assistant Director Md Nasrullah Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director Imran Akon and Deputy Assistant Director Roman Uddin are the other members.

Asif is the first adviser from the interim government to face an ACC investigation over corruption allegations.
