The motorcade of Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) constituency BNP MP Aynul Haque came under attack at Dhangara Bazar in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj this evening.
The lawmaker escaped unhurt, but his private car was partially damaged by miscreants during the attack, said police.
Police and local party sources said Aynul attended a consultation meeting on the establishment of a Technical Education and Training Centre in Raiganj. Around 6:00pm, when the lawmaker was leaving the venue after the meeting, a group of miscreants suddenly attacked his motorcade, shattering the windows of his car. Aynul was safely evacuated from the scene shortly afterwards.
Later, in a Facebook Live stream, Aynul alleged that the miscreants wanted to kill him. He said that even as a lawmaker of the ruling party, his personal safety was at risk.

The MP and his associates blamed activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the NCP for the attack.
Confirming the incident, Saiful Islam Khan, additional superintendent of police (Raiganj circle) in Sirajganj, said the lawmaker was not injured in the incident but his private car sustained damage.
“We are actively investigating the matter. Video footage of the incident has been collected to identify the perpetrators, and legal action will be taken after investigation,” the police official said, adding that a formal written complaint was yet to be lodged.
Talking to The Daily Star, Jahidul Islam, secretary of the Sirajganj district unit of Jamaat, denied the allegation.
He said a programme was being held with their party members present when the incident occurred.
“So, there is no scope for such a false blame game,” he added.
