A youth in Noakhali has submitted a written complaint to police against FIFA President Gianni Infantino and French referee François Letexier, alleging "biased officiating" during the FIFA World Cup 2026 match between Egypt and Argentina and seeking Tk 5 crore in compensation.

The complainant, Md Rakib, 22, of Mandartoli village in Noakhali Sadar upazila, submitted the complaint to Sudharam Police Station around 8:00pm yesterday. In the complaint, he also named 15 to 20 unidentified people as alleged accomplices.

Rakib alleged that the referee deliberately favoured Argentina during the World Cup match on Tuesday night, depriving Egypt of victory. He claimed the officiating amounted to premeditated fraud and had hurt the emotions of millions of football supporters worldwide.

According to the complaint, Egypt took the lead early in the match before Argentina were awarded what Rakib described as an "unfair penalty". He further alleged that another goal scored by Egypt was initially allowed but later disallowed without justification. He also claimed Egyptian players were unfairly shown yellow cards and the team's head coach was sent off, affecting the team's performance.

Rakib said the decisions caused him and millions of Egyptian supporters "severe mental distress". He sought Tk 5 crore in compensation and demanded legal action against those responsible under international law.

Speaking to reporters, Rakib said he filed the complaint because he believed there should be accountability for "injustice" in the match.

"Since the police did not accept the complaint as a regular case, I will take the matter to court. If necessary, I will also organise human chains and other protest programmes," he said.

Sudharam Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kamrul Islam confirmed that Rakib had visited the police station with the complaint.

"We have no legal scope to accept such a complaint. After explaining the matter to him, he left with the application," the OC said.
