Taylor Swift is bringing a dose of nostalgia and star power to her latest music video.

On Friday, the 14-time Grammy-winning superstar unveiled the ’90s-inspired visuals for her track “Opalite” on Apple Music and Spotify.

Written and directed by Swift, the whimsical video follows the singer as she unexpectedly falls for a fellow misfit, played by Domhnall Gleeson, after spritzing herself with a magical love potion aptly named “Opalite”. The result is a charming, retro-tinged love story with Swift’s signature storytelling at its heart.

In an Instagram post, Swift revealed that the concept for the video came to her after Gleeson playfully mentioned on The Graham Norton Show last October that he would love to appear in one of her music videos.

“He was just joking! But at that very moment during the interview, an idea suddenly hit me,” Swift wrote. “A week later, he got an email with the script I had written for the ‘Opalite’ video, casting him in the lead role.”

She also invited the other guests who appeared on the show that night. “I thought it would be so fun if all our fellow guests on The Graham Norton Show, including Graham himself, could join in—like a school group project for adults, but totally optional,” she explained. “To my delight, everyone from the show jumped on board, time-traveling back to the ’90s with us to help bring this video to life.”

Gleeson, recognised for his roles in films like “About Time” and series like “The Paper”, plays Swift’s bashful love interest in the video. Stuck in a prickly relationship with a cactus, his world is turned upside down when Swift spritzes herself with Opalite and magically appears in his living room.

“Past Lives” star Greta Lee makes a brief cameo as a brooding singer performing on MTV while Swift stops by a bar with her pet rock.

Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy also appears in the video as the face of Opalite, featured on a billboard flashing a big smile and giving a thumbs-up. He also lends his voice to the opening Opalite commercial.

Jodie Turner-Smith, who recently starred alongside Lee in “Tron: Ares”, makes a cameo as the instructor of an aerobics class that Swift watches on her TV.

“Someone You Loved” singer Lewis Capaldi switches gears from Grammy-nominated artist to playful mall photographer, snapping pictures of Gleeson and Swift before joining the fun and jumping into the shots himself.

TV host Graham Norton also gets his moment in the spotlight, playing a mall worker selling Nope-alite, a potion that reverses “Opalite’s” magic. He sprays it on a young man and nearly hits Swift, but Gleeson leaps in and knocks the bottle from his hands.

“Opalite” has quickly become one of the standout tracks from “The Life of a Showgirl”, racking up over 500 million streams and ranking as the album’s second most streamed song after “The Fate of Ophelia”. Last month, Swift officially released it as the album’s second single, and the newly unveiled music video is expected to give the track an even bigger boost on the charts.

For fans in Bangladesh, the “Opalite” video is set to release on YouTube at 7 pm BST on February 8, 2026, two days after its initial debut on Apple Music and Spotify.
