A one-minute symbolic blackout will be observed across Bangladesh on the night of March 25.

The blackout will take place from 10:30 pm to 10:31 pm nationwide, said an official handout on Monday.

However, key point installations, emergency facilities, and foreign missions located in Bangladesh will remain outside the purview of the blackout.

Bangladesh observes March 25 as Genocide Day to mark the killings of Bangladeshis on this day in 1971. The Pakistani army launched ‘Operation Searchlight’ on 25 March all over the then East Pakistan, which culminated in untold miseries for the people of Bangladesh.

The day marks one of the darkest chapters in Bangladesh’s history, as unarmed Bangalis, including students, teachers, and police personnel, were massacred across the country, particularly in Dhaka, by the Pakistan army.
