Four more children died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, raising the combined death toll from confirmed and suspected measles cases to 702, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

The DGHS said in its regular measles bulletin issued on Friday that 107 new confirmed measles cases were detected in the past 24 hours till Friday morning.


Since March 15, a total of 93 people have died from laboratory-confirmed measles, while 609 others died with suspected measles symptoms, bringing the overall death toll to 702.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of deaths with 263, followed by Rajshahi with 88, Sylhet 77, Mymensingh 56, Chattogram 51, Barishal 39, Khulna 27 and Rangpur 8.

During the past 24 hours, 869 people with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country, while 786 patients were admitted, said the DGHS data.

The total number of measles-related hospital admissions has reached 81,283 since March 15. Of them, 77,613 patients have been discharged after receiving treatment.

The cumulative number of suspected measles cases has risen to 97,522, while the total number of confirmed infections now stands at 11,549, the DGHS said.
