Arijit Singh has returned to playback singing, months after he announced his retirement from the profession. He is set to reunite with filmmaker-producer Vishesh Bhatt for “Yeh Awarapan”, the first song from the upcoming film “Awarapan 2”. The track, composed by Amaal Malik with lyrics by Rashmi Virag, has been released today across all major streaming platforms. The song marked Arijit’s first recording since he stepped away in January.

According to Pinkvilla, Vishesh Bhatt has positioned “Yeh Awarapan” as the emotional centrepiece of the sequel, with the song reflecting the inner world of the film’s protagonist, Shivam Pandit.

A source quoted by the publication said Bhatt carefully crafted the film’s soundtrack as a defining element of “Awarapan 2”, adding that Arijit Singh’s voice was chosen to bring the title track’s emotional depth to life.

The collaboration also marks another chapter in the long-standing association between Arijit Singh and Vishesh Films, which began with “Phir Mohabbat” from “Murder 2”. The partnership has since produced several chart-topping songs, including "Tum Hi Ho" from “Aashiqui 2”, “Muskurane” from “CityLights”, the title tracks of “Khamoshiyan” and “Hamari Adhuri Kahani”, as well as “Pal” from “Jalebi”.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, “Awarapan 2” stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead role alongside Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, and Atul Kumar. The film is produced by Vishesh Bhatt and is slated to release in cinemas on August 14, 2026.
