A youth has been accused of raping a 10-year-old child in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj.

The accused, Mursalin Sheikh, 20, is a resident of Nizamkandi Purbapara village of Kashiani upazila, said police.

The child's grandmother filed a case with Kashiani Police Station on Saturday night, confirmed Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Taj Uddin Ahmed, its officer-in-charge.

According to the case statement, the child has been living with her grandmother since her parents separated 9 years ago. On Sunday (April 3), she went to visit her aunt's house in Nizamkandi village of Kashiani upazila from her grandmother's house in Bongram of Sadar upazila.

On Thursday (April 7), Mursalin, a neighbour of the aunt, took the child to a nearby forest and raped her.

When the child became unconscious, Mursalin left her behind. Later, she regained consciousness at 3:00pm and returned to the aunt's house, the complaint added.

When the family members found out about the matter, the victim was admitted to the 250-bed General Hospital in Gopalganj that evening.

Dr Jibitesh Biswas, superintendent of the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital, said the child was indeed raped and has been admitted to the hospital.

The OC said they are trying to arrest the accused and are preparing to take further legal action.
