Stocks extended their winning run for the second consecutive session on Wednesday, with renewed buying interest in selected shares pushing the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) higher amid improving investor confidence.
The market remained buoyant as investors continued to respond to an assurance from the securities regulator that it would not interfere with the normal course of market trading.
Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Masud Khan on Monday said the market would be allowed to move on its own strength and that the regulator would not intervene in its normal course.
The DSE's benchmark DSEX surged more than 23 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 5,660 points. The index has gained around 61 points over the past two sessions.
The blue-chip DS30 index advanced more than three points to 2,125, while the Shariah-based DSES rose five points to 1,135.
Trading activity also strengthened significantly, with turnover jumping more than 22 per cent from the previous session to Tk 7.31 billion, reflecting increased participation from investors.
Market breadth remained firmly positive, with 239 issues advancing against 92 declining, while 57 issues remained unchanged on the DSE.
Malek Spinning topped the turnover chart, with shares worth around Tk 518 million changing hands.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher. Its CASPI gained 56 points to 15,186, while the CSCX advanced 32 points to 9,269.
