Police on Tuesday recovered the partially decomposed body of a woman from a flat in East Kazipara area of Dhaka’s Mirpur.

The victim was identified as Rabeya Khan, also known as Jenny Khan, 26 -- daughter of Habibur Rahman and Jyotsna Begum of Kishoreganj’s Pakundia, said police.

Quoting her landlord, police said she was a nurse.

A young man, who identified himself as her husband, Ashikur Zaman Munna, is on the run, said Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sajjad Hossain.

Police are conducting drives to detain him, the OC added.

Police, citing the landlord, said Munna and Rabeya rented the flat in April.

OC Sajjad told The Daily Star that after primary investigation they found out that on Sunday, Munna left the flat.

Since Tuesday morning, a foul smell had been coming from the flat. Police and fire service personnel were alerted around noon. They arrived at the scene, broke open the door and found Rabeya’s body on the bed.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for autopsy.

The OC said the flat had a push-button locking system, meaning the door would lock automatically when someone pressed the button while leaving.

According to police and morgue sources, the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making it difficult to identify any visible injury marks. Further details are expected after the autopsy.
