Litton Das scored a sublime century under immense pressure in the first innings and backed it up with a vital fifty in the second as Bangladesh completed their first home Test-series whitewash with a 78-run victory in the second Test in Sylhet on Wednesday.

Beyond his batting, the Bangladesh wicketkeeper’s work behind the stumps was equally crucial. Consequently, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto identified the Litton, adjudged player of the match, as the primary architect behind this victory.

The Test provided five days of thrilling cricket, with the hosts passing a stern test of skill, mental fortitude, and patience.

After finding themselves in dire straits at 116 for six in the first innings, Litton shepherded the tail-enders to add 162 runs. His 126-run innings under extreme duress allowed Bangladesh to post 278, securing a crucial 46-run lead.

In the second innings, complementing Mushfiqur Rahim’s century, Litton contributed a fluent 69. Throughout the series, he remained sharp behind the stumps, taking brilliant catches and maintaining active communication with his bowlers and fielders to navigate match situations.

Reflecting on the triumph, Shanto was effusive in his praise when asked about the impact of Litton's batting: “That is a very important question; I was hoping someone would ask about the opening day. Litton played an outstanding innings -- one of his best, I would say.”

Giving credit to other contributors like Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana, Shanto singled out the calm and calculated approach from Litton as the main driver of this historic win.

“Credit must also go to Taijul, Taskin, Shoriful, and Rana for the support they provided. The responsibility Litton showed in that situation is proof that Bangladesh is evolving into a formidable unit. There was a belief in the dressing room that Taijul would provide the necessary support and that Litton would keep ticking the scoreboard over. Litton even sent a message from the middle to ask about our approach. The communication was excellent. Ultimately, I would say that for this win, the biggest credit goes to Litton’s innings. Otherwise, we would have been far behind in that first innings,” Shanto said.
