General inflation at the national level has again risen in January 2026, as the inflation rate on a point-to-point basis increased to 8.58%.

This figure is slightly higher than the previous month, December 2025, when it was 8.49%.

However, inflationary pressures have eased somewhat in annual comparison.

According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the general inflation rate in the country in January 2025 was 9.94%, which is significantly higher than the current rate.

On Sunday (February 8), the BBS released updated inflation data.

According to BBS data, inflation in the food sector increased significantly in January.

At this time, the food inflation rate stood at 8.29%, which was 7.71% in the previous month.

However, the food inflation rate has decreased compared to a year ago. In January 2025, inflation in the food sector was 10.72%.

On the other hand, the inflation rate in the non-food sector has decreased slightly. In January, inflation in this sector stood at 8.81%, which was 9.13% in December 2025.

In January last year, the inflation rate in the non-food sector was 9.32%.

Although the overall inflation rate increased slightly on a monthly basis, there are signs of some relief in the annual comparison, according to those concerned.
