Apple could expand its newly introduced foldable iPhone line with a larger-screen model, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said Apple is likely to introduce an “iPhone Duo Max” in the coming years. The model would presumably feature a larger display than the standard iPhone Duo, although Gurman did not provide details about its specifications or a possible release date.

The report also offers some insight into Apple's decision to call its first foldable iPhone the “Duo” rather than “Ultra”. In the months before the device was unveiled, Apple employees had reportedly referred to it internally as the “iPhone Ultra”. Gurman said the name may have been influenced by media reports and speculation from leakers.

Apple ultimately chose “Duo”, a three-letter suffix that follows the naming pattern used for products such as the iPhone Air and iPhone Pro. Gurman suggested that the shorter name also gives Apple more flexibility to introduce additional versions of the device.

Among the possibilities he outlined are a “Duo SE” and a “Duo Mini”. The former could offer lower specifications, while the latter could adopt a clamshell-style design similar to some existing foldable smartphones.

Gurman also predicted that the iPhone Duo could eventually become the dominant product in the foldable-phone market. He attributed that potential to Apple's software adaptations, hardware quality and durability, arguing that the device could help make foldable smartphones more mainstream.
