Protesters set bus seats on fire, blocking traffic for about an hour

Two women were killed and several others injured when a bus collided with an easy bike on the Dinajpur-Syedpur highway in Rajapara under Dinajpur's Chirirbandar upazila on Wednesday evening.

The deceased are Morsheda Begum, 35, of Kisamat Kadikal village in Syedpur upazila, and Aduri, 18, daughter of Subhas Chandra Roy of Dighaldangi village in Nilphamari Sadar upazila.

Both worked at Trillion Gold Company, a wig manufacturer in Fatejungpur village of Chirirbandar, Dinajpur.

Mahabul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Dashmail Highway Police Station, told The Daily Star over phone that the accident occurred around 7:30pm when a Dinajpur-bound bus collided head-on with an easy bike coming from the opposite direction, leaving the two female passengers of easy bike, who were returning home from work, dead.

After the collision, the bus veered into a roadside ditch.

Locals rescued ten injured passengers from both vehicles and took them to Syedpur Hospital for treatment.

Protesting the accident, locals set several seats of the bus on fire, and caused massive traffic congestion for about an hour.

Responding to a query, the OC said legal action will be taken after victims' families file a complaint.
