The Workers Party of Bangladesh on Monday urged the Election Commission to ensure that the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad election would be fair, neutral, fearless, and inclusive, allowing participation from all political parties.

A three-member delegation of the party met with the commission’s senior secretary Akhtar Ahmed at his office in Agargaon to discuss the upcoming elections and present their demands.

The delegation included acting party president Mahmudul Hasan Manik, acting general secretary Nur Ahmed Bakul and Politburo member Kamrul Ahsan.

The party leaders submitted a proposal containing ten points, calling for a non-communal and democratic election environment.

The proposal emphasised that religion should not be used for political purposes and demanded measures to prevent vote-buying, intimidation, and influence from loan defaulters or muscle power.

The party urged that the election be conducted impartially, with the army and law enforcement agencies maintaining neutrality.

The Workers Party also said that the Election Commission must ensure that the 13th parliamentary elections would be free from influence, peaceful, inclusive, and participated by all parties.

The EC secretary told New Age that the three leaders of the party met him and submitted a letter outlining their demands.
