To further promote Tangail’s tourism potential, the district administration is organising the first-ever “Sweet Festival-2026”.

The announcement was made at a press briefing held at the Tangail Deputy Commissioner’s Office today.

The three-day festival will be held at Tangail Municipal Park from September 4 to 6, at the initiative of the district administration, particularly under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque.

The organisers hope the festival will play an important role in promoting Tangail’s century-old sweet-making industry at home and abroad, while also showcasing the district’s local heritage, culture and products.

The festival will feature a variety of traditional sweets prepared by artisans whose families have been involved in the trade for generations. Visitors will also be able to see a large display of traditional Tangail sarees.

The organisers said the festival has three main objectives: building “Brand Tangail” by promoting the district’s century-old sweet industry nationally and internationally; creating a platform for young people to become entrepreneurs while preserving the traditional craft; and strengthening the local economy by promoting locally made products.

They believe the event, with a focus on Tangail’s GI products -- saree, pineapple, chamcham and Sandesh -- and traditional industries, will help further develop the district’s tourism sector. It will also provide local small entrepreneurs, sweet artisans, weavers and traders with opportunities to connect with new markets and buyers.

Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque said the festival would carry the message, “Tangail’s GI products are not only Tangail’s; they are the pride of Bangladesh”, with the aim of strengthening the local economy and promoting tourism.
