At least three people were killed in separate road accidents in Natore and Munshiganj today.

In Natore, two people were killed when a speeding bus hit a three-wheeler on the Rajshahi-Natore highway in Natore Sadar upazila in the afternoon.

The accident occurred in the Ramaigachi area near the Boro Harishpur bypass.

Police seized the bus, but its driver managed to flee.

The deceased were identified as three-wheeler driver Syed Mia, 45, and its passenger Sabbir Hossain, 23. Both were residents of Natore Sadar upazila.

Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mansur Rahman said the accident took place at around 1:00pm when a Dhaka-bound bus struck the three-wheeler.

“The driver of the three-wheeler and the passenger died on the spot," the OC said.

Police and firefighters rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

Jhalmalia Highway Police Station OC Md Jakir Hossain said highway police removed the vehicles involved in the accident.

"Highway police seized the bus, but the driver managed to flee," he added.

In Munshiganj, one person was killed when a lorry collided with a truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Gajaria upazila.

The accident occurred at around 3:12am in the Jamaldi Bus Stand area.

The deceased was identified as Tota Mia, 32, of Parul Bhusia village in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon. He was the owner of the fish fry being transported in the lorry. The driver of the lorry, Ruman, 28, of Adamdighi upazila of Bogura, sustained critical injuries.

According to Fire Service sources, the fish fry-laden lorry was heading towards Cumilla from Dhaka. Upon reaching the Jamaldi Bus Stand area, the driver lost control of the steering and crashed into a truck. The lorry was severely damaged, leaving Tota dead on the spot and driver Ruman trapped inside with critical injuries.

Muhammed Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, "Immediately after receiving the news, our team rescued the injured driver from the vehicle. He was swiftly sent to Gajaria Upazila Health Complex. The body of the deceased was recovered and handed over to the highway police."
