At least three people were killed and more than 20 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Tangail’s Madhupur upazila last night.

All the deceased and injured were passengers on the bus, Madhupur Fire Service Team Leader Borhan Ali told The Daily Star.

The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

Borhan said the accident occurred around 10:00pm in the Raktipara area. On receiving information, a fire service team rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Two women and a child died on the spot, he said.

Fire service personnel, with the help of locals, rescued the injured and took them to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex.

The truck fled the scene after the collision, Borhan added.

Madhupur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Anwar Hossain told The Daily Star that the bodies of the three deceased have been kept at the hospital, and efforts are underway to identify them.

Eight of the injured are being treated at Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, while several critically injured victims have been referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and other healthcare facilities, he added.
