The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance will hold a rally in the capital Dhaka tomorrow if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government does not implement the referendum verdict.

Alliance leaders said that about 70 per cent of voters on February 12 cast ‘yes’ votes in favour of the referendum involving the July National Charter, a reform instrument.

To press their demands, the leaders at a meeting at the Jamaat’s central office in the capital finalised a series of programmes, including holding a procession in the Dhaka city tomorrow, holding processions in all cities across the country on April 25, holding processions in all district towns on May 2, holding mass contacts in districts from April 18 to May 2 and holding seminars in some key cities.

‘The alliance will hold rallies in all divisional cities later,’ Jamaat secretary general Mia Golam Parwar said at a press briefing after the meeting.

Jamaat amir Safiqur Rahman, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, National Citizen Party convener Nahid Islam, Liberal Democratic Party chairman Oli Ahmed and Jamaat-led alliance coordinator Hamidur Rahman Azad, among others, attended the meeting.
