Popular Bangladeshi rock band Mechanix is celebrating two decades of its musical journey with a mega concert in Dhaka today (Saturday).
Titled "An Evening with Mechanix – Celebrating 20 Years of Legacy," the concert is being held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Auditorium. The programme is set to begin at 3 pm and continue until 11 pm.
Several prominent bands and artistes from different generations of Bangladeshi rock music will perform alongside Mechanix at the concert. The lineup includes Miles, Warfaze, LRB, Artcell, Arbovirus, Shironamhin, and members of AvoidRafa.
In addition, performances will feature AK Rahul, Black Zang, Rock Salt, as well as several bands representing the younger generation.
Speaking about the event, founding member and vocalist Aftabuzzaman Tridib said the programme is more than just a concert. "I wouldn't call this just a show; it's more like a reunion," he said. "Old memories will return, we'll meet friends we may have lost touch with, and celebrate together."
He added that both current and former members of Mechanix will be joined on stage by musicians from many of the country's leading bands. "We want our old friends, fans and music lovers from different generations to come and celebrate with us. Mechanix has come this far because of them," Tridib said.
Mechanix began its journey in 2005, holding its first practice session on November 23 at Music Mania in Dhanmondi. The original lineup included Tridib on vocals, Sheikh M Reaz on drums, Rusho Khan on bass and Tamzid Khan on guitar. Guitarist Imran Ahmed joined the band within a month, completing the early formation.
The band gained wider recognition after competing in the second season of "D-Rockstar" in 2007. Although they exited at the semifinal stage, the exposure helped establish their presence nationwide. Mechanix released its debut album "Oporajeyo" in 2011.
The band's current lineup consists of Tridib (vocals), Sheikh M Reaz (drums), Saif Irfan (guitar), Shefat Ahmed Chowdhury (guitar) and Soumik Islam.
