Indian high commissioner Pranay Verma joined a colourful cultural event in Dhaka on Monday night and extended his greetings to the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Chaitra Sankranti and Pahela Baishakh.

The programme, organised by Itihas O Oitijjo Parishad at the Bangladesh National Museum, featured a rich array of performances reflecting traditional Bengali culture, marking Chaitra Sankranti and the eve of Pahela Baishakh.


Bangladesh cultural affairs minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury was also present at the event, according to the High Commission of India in Dhaka.

The event included dances inspired by nature and seasonal changes, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, recitations and traditional Jari music.

Addressing the audience, Pranay Verma extended his greetings to the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Chaitra Sankranti and Pahela Baishakh.

He described the festivities as an integral part of the deep-rooted shared cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh.

He said that such cultural celebrations would continue to strengthen the close bonds between the societies and peoples of the two neighbouring countries.
