State minister for information and broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury stated on Sunday that the government is currently reviewing the inclusion of district-based newspapers with poor publication records on the Department of Films and Publications list.
Addressing the Jatiya Sangsad during the first sitting of the 13th parliament’s second session, the state minister responded to a starred question from Jamalpur-3 lawmaker Mostafijur Rahman Babul.
He confirmed that the ministry is examining whether these newspapers were enlisted following proper procedures and assured that action will be taken against anyone found responsible for irregularities.
Additionally, in response to a supplementary question from Cox’s Bazar-3 lawmaker Lutfar Rahman, the state minister announced that the ministry is formulating a new policy for the registration and operation of online news portals. This initiative comes following concerns raised regarding the operation of online platforms that are allegedly spreading misinformation and disinformation.
