Humanoid robotics startup Figure AI has reached a symbolic milestone: it now has more robots in operation than human workers. Founder and CEO Brett Adcock announced on X this week that roughly 740 Figure robots have been deployed, while the company counts around 660 human staff, of whom only about 314 are salaried employees and the rest are hourly or contractors.
The company, founded in 2022, had almost no operational robots at the start of 2025. It surpassed 100 units only at the end of that year. In the months since, the robot headcount has climbed sharply, following what Adcock described as an exponential curve, even as human hiring levelled off.
As per its official website, Figure AI focuses on developing general-purpose humanoid robots designed to address global labour shortages by automating dangerous, repetitive, or undesirable tasks. The company aims to deploy its hardware across various industrial sectors, including manufacturing, warehousing, and commercial logistics, before eventually expanding into consumer homes.
The company's aggressive development timeline has been backed by massive corporate funding. In September 2025, Figure AI completed a Series C funding round that secured over $1 billion in capital from major technology investors, propelling the startup to a $39 billion valuation.
