A 26-year-old woman has been rescued after allegedly being gang raped in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh district.
The woman, a mother of two and originally from Sunamganj, was found yesterday and later sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for treatment, according to police.
Quoting the victim, Md Azharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station, said she had been travelling with her three-year-old daughter to her in-law's in Bhaluka upazila when she reportedly lost her way on last Sunday afternoon.
He said that by evening she reached the Nandail, where she was approached by four men who offered assistance. She was then taken to a secluded location, where she was allegedly raped repeatedly.
When the victim was found crying with her baby in her lap at the Shimultoli Bazar area beside the Nandail–Tarail road in Nandail the following night, a woman from a nearby area took her home, where she was given shelter and food, said the OC.
Acting on information, police rescued the woman and her daughter yesterday, OC Azharul Islam said.
The victim’s father has filed a case with Nandail Police Station naming one person, while several others have been listed as unidentified suspects.
Police said operations are underway to arrest those accused, but no one has yet been arrested.
