Hasan Nawaz held his nerve with an unbeaten 35 off 36 balls as Chattogram Royals edged past Rajshahi Warriors by two wickets in a low-scoring, last-ball thriller of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The win helped Chattogram retain the top spot on the points table with five victories from seven matches, while Rajshahi remained fourth with four wins from six games.
Chasing a modest target of 129, Chattogram found themselves in deep trouble early, slumping to 28 for four inside the first five overs. Nawaz then anchored the innings with two crucial partnerships—adding 40 runs with Mahedi Hasan, who scored 28 off 25 balls, and a further 35 with his Pakistan teammate Asif Ali, who made 27 from 25 deliveries.
Rajshahi pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowled a superb 19th over, conceding just three runs and dismissing Abu Hider for one, leaving Chattogram needing 10 runs from the final over.
With their frontline bowlers already exhausted, Rajshahi handed the ball to off-spinner S M Meherob Hasan, who had figures of two for 15 from his first two overs. Nawaz struck eight runs, including a boundary, from the first three deliveries to reduce the equation to two off three balls.
Meherob responded with two dot balls, but Nawaz managed to push the final delivery towards long-off to seal a dramatic last-ball victory. Binura Fernando was the standout performer with the ball for Rajshahi, finishing with figures of three for 18.
Earlier, Rajshahi struggled to build momentum after being sent in to bat and were restricted to 128 for nine in their 20 overs. Muhammad Waseem and Meherob were the top scorers, with 19 runs apiece.
For Chattogram, Aamer Jamal led the bowling attack with figures of three for 23, while Shoriful Islam and Tanvir Islam picked up two wickets each.
