Actress Runa Khan has joined the cast of “Jolpobon”, a new independent film that tells the story of life in Bangladesh’s haor region.
Directed by Rajon Talukdar, the film went into production on August 15 in the haor areas of Sunamganj. The shoot is expected to continue throughout the month.
Runa will play a character named Nirala. Speaking about the film, she described it as a story centred on waiting and the everyday lives of people in the haor region.
“I do not want to reveal much more at this stage. I joined the project because I liked the character. It is shaping up to be a very good film, and I hope we can give audiences something worthwhile,” she said.
“Jolpobon” marks the feature-film debut of director Rajon Talukdar, along with several members of its cast and crew. Talukdar studied filmmaking at the Bangladesh Film and Television Institute.
Runa said she was pleased to be working with the emerging artistes involved in the project and praised their ability. Sushanta Prithviraj and Samiul Haque are playing the other two principal characters. Sushanta is a member of Prachyanat Theatre, while Samiul studied theatre at Jahangirnagar University. Several local performers, many of whom are involved in theatre, are also part of the cast.
