The Ganosamhati Andolan on Friday retained Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu as acting chief coordinator and Abul Hasan Rubel as executive coordinator of the party.
The decision was taken at a two-day special organisational council held in May 7-8 at the Gonoshasthaya PHA Convention Centre in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.
At the concluding session on Friday, party representatives from across the country held discussions and amended the party constitution before taking decisions regarding the party leadership.
The party’s central executive committee also announced a 21-member secretariat and a 215-member national council.
Earlier, the party’s fifth national conference, held on October 31 and in November 1-2, 2025, elected a 55-member central committee.
After being elected lawmaker from the Brahmanbaria-6 constituency and then becoming state minister for planning, party chief coordinator Zonayed Saki stepped down from the top post of the party on April 4 following a policy decision not to hold both party and government responsibilities simultaneously.
At that time, freedom fighter Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu, a member of the party’s political council, took over as acting chief coordinator.
Addressing the concluding session, acting chief coordinator Nilu said that the country was now passing through a period of national reconstruction. ‘Our aspiration is to establish a democratic system that is run in the interest of the people,’ he said.
The newly announced 21-member secretariat includes Bachchu Bhuiyan as publicity and publication secretary, advocate Murad Morshed as law, justice and human rights secretary, Dipak Roy as education and culture secretary, Tarikul Islam Sujan as political education and training secretary, Alif Dewan as labour affairs secretary, advocate Ubathowai Marma as ethnic diversity affairs secretary, Touhidur Rahman as environment secretary and Aparajita Chand as finance secretary.
Abdul Alim was made agriculture and food security secretary, Abdullah Nadvi science and technology secretary, Popy Rani Sarkar gender affairs secretary, Nasir Uddin international secretary, Rexona Parvin Sumi public health and treatment secretary, Golam Mostafa office secretary, and Tahsin Mahmud media and digital affairs secretary.
