Gopalganj Sadar upazila Awami League Treasurer Md Sanwar Hossain Molla has resigned from his party post and joined the BNP along with several hundred supporters.
Sanwar formally joined the BNP this afternoon by presenting flowers to Gopalganj-2 lawmaker KM Babar at a programme in the Jangal Bazar area of Nijra union under Gopalganj Sadar upazila.
Senior BNP leaders and activists from its affiliated organisations were present on the occasion.
Sanwar told The Daily Star, “I have been living abroad for a long time and returned to the country after about two years. After observing various political issues and local conditions, I decided to join BNP.”
He said, “Along with me, former vice-president of Nijra union Awami League, Nurul Islam Sheikh, also joined BNP. In addition, many of my supporters also joined the party.”
Gopalganj-2 MP Babar said, “I want to ensure that in Gopalganj Sadar upazila there is no injustice, no oppression, and no one suffers or is cheated. In sha Allah, we will ensure such an environment.”
