Sardar Mohebi, spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), says the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is subject to “specific mechanisms and conditions” of Iran, which has no connection to ongoing negotiations with Oman, Iranian state news agency Tasnim reports.

“For us, the Strait of Hormuz is not merely an economic waterway, but rather a component of geographical and strategic power,” Mohebi explained.

The spokesperson added that the opening of the waterway was conditional on the US “fully accepting Iran’s conditions and ceasing to interfere in the regional negotiations”.

“Whenever the US accepts Iran’s conditions, the Strait of Hormuz will definitely open,” he said.
