Khaleda Zia's health has deteriorated since yesterday, Fakhrul says

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia remains in serious condition, and her planned journey to London for advanced treatment will depend on doctors confirming whether she is fit to fly, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.

Speaking at a prayer at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, at 2:00pm, Fakhrul said, "If the air ambulance from Qatar arrives tomorrow, there is a possibility that she will be taken to London on Sunday. She is still seriously ill. Only if the doctors confirm she is fit to fly, she will be flown for treatment."

He noted that both local and international doctors are currently treating Khaleda.

He mentioned that the decision to take Khaleda to London was taken following the advice of doctors.

Fakhrul added that her illness is suspected to have started during her time in central jail, where a lack of proper treatment worsened her condition.

Recalling her earlier health struggles, Fakhrul said, "You all know that during the COVID period, she became seriously ill for four years. By Allah's immense grace, she recovered. But in these past few days, she has fallen ill again."

Earlier in the day, Fakhrul told reporters that Khaleda's journey to London had been delayed both because of Qatar air ambulance's non-arrival and Khaleda's health deterioration. "It's not just an aircraft issue; her health condition is also a factor. Her health got a bit worse yesterday," he said over the phone, adding that further medical procedures would be carried out today.
