If any party leader contests in these seats, actions will be taken, Fakhrul warns
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party will not field any candidates in four parliamentary seats as part of a seat-sharing arrangement with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh.
Speaking at a briefing at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan today, Fakhrul said that Maulana Manjurul Islam Afendi will contest from Nilphamari-1, Monir Hossain from Narayanganj-4, Ubaydullah Faruk from Sylhet-5, and Junayed Al Habib from Brahmanbaria-2 as candidates of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.
BNP will not nominate any candidates in these seats, Fakhrul said, adding that the decision was taken based on an understanding with Jamiat-e Ulama-e-Islam.
"If any BNP leader contests in these four seats, either as an independent or in any other manner, organisational action will be taken against them," he warned.
Fakhrul said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam will not field candidates in any other constituencies.
At the briefing, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Secretary General Ubaydullah Faruk said that compared to other political parties, they consider BNP more trustworthy.
