The police on Saturday stopped Ganatantrik Jukta Front’s US embassy-bound march in front of the Confidence Tower in the capital’s Badda area.

Ganatantrik Jukta Front, a combine of seven political parties, started the march towards the US embassy protesting against US aggression in Venezuela and forcibly taking Venezuela’s president Nicholas Maduro and his wife to the United States forcibly.

Jukta Front leaders and activists started their march from in front of the Subashtu Tower in the Badda area and the police stopped the marchers in front of Confidence Tower by erecting a barricade.

Faced with the barricade, the leaders and activists sat beside the road and held a protest rally there.

Addressing the rally as the chair, the combine leader and Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz denounced the US army attack on Venezuela to pick up its president and his wife to take them to the United States.

He said that the US had no right to lead the aggression on an independent country like Venezuela and pick up its president and his wife to take them to the United States.

The aggression aimed to capture the oil resources of Venezuela, Bazlur Rashid said.

Communist Party of Bangladesh president Kazi Sazzad Zahir Chandan called on the world community to be vocal against the US aggression.

Bangladesh Jasod standing committee member Mushtuq Husain criticised the interim government of Bangladesh for not protesting against the US aggression.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for Gulshan Zone, Md Al-Amin Hossain, said that they had halted the march towards the US embassy at about 3:45pm.

‘We have halted the march to ensure the security of the embassy and avoid any untoward situation,’ he added.

Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu demanded an immediate stop to the aggression on Venezuela and the release of its elected president and his wife.

Revolutionary Communist League central leader Nazrul Islam said that the left and democratic political parties would wage a tougher movement to protest against the US aggression.

Central leader of SPB (Marxist) Shima Datta called on the interim government to take a stand against the US aggression in Venezuela.
