A defamation case was filed on Monday against National Citizen Party chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, allegedly for making defamatory remarks about a leader of the Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Kazi Mukituzzaman, a member of the convening committee of the Dhaka south unit of Juba Dal, filed the case with the court of Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Md Zakir Hossain.

After recording the complainant’s statement, the court ordered the Detective Branch of police to investigate the allegations and submit a report by November 30, said the plaintiff’s lawyer, Mehedi Hasan Jewel.

The case alleged that Nasiruddin made defamatory comments targeting Rabiul Islam Nayon, the member secretary of the Dhaka south unit of Juba Dal.

The complaint alleged that on November 1, at a gathering held at the BMA Auditorium in the capital, Nasiruddin made defamatory statements aimed at Rabiul Islam Nayon.

Quoting Nasiruddin as saying, the case statement said, ‘A major party is acting like a bully over the July charter.’

There is a leader in Dhaka city named Nayon (BNP’s youth front leader) who has made so much money through extortion and corruption that he alone can fund the cost of a referendum, the case statement referred to Nasiruddin’s quote in the November 1 gathering.

The case statement alleged the NCP leader further stated, ‘We have tried to cleanse them with the waters of Zamzam for some time. But neither their minds nor their bodies have been cleansed. Now, I think, they must be washed with the waters of the Buriganga river.’

The case statement also said that Nasiruddin’s false, fabricated, baseless, misleading, and defamatory remarks were widely published by different media outlets.

The case also said that these statements severely damaged the social and political reputation of Rabiul Islam Nayon and the entire Juba Dal, along with the reputation of the entire youth community.
