The police on Thursday arrested a suspect in a case filed over the rape of a 16-year old girl in Narsingdi.

The arrested was Mahbub, a resident of Paulanpur area under Meherpara union in Narsingdi’s Madhabdi municipality.

According to the police and victim’s family, a young man named Mosharraf Mia allegedly took the victim to Mahbub’s house while she was returning home after finishing work at a Textile Mill on Wednesday night. The duo allegedly raped her, they said, adding that local people gathered at the spot hearing the screams of the victim.

Local people caught Mahbub from the spot and handed him over to the police but Mosharraf managed to flee from the scene.

Madhabdi police station officer-in-charge Kamal Hossain said that the victim’s father on Thursday filed a rape case.

Mahbub was shown arrested in the case and drives were under way to arrest Mosharraf, he added.

The police on Thursday produced Mahbub before a Narsingdi court with a remand prayer, hearing of which was set to be held on Monday, said Kamal, adding that the court sent Mahbub to jail.
