The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced 36 additional candidates for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
The announcement was made at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Thursday afternoon.
On December 3, the party released its first list of 237 candidates. The following day, BNP suspended its nomination for the Madaripur-1 constituency.

“We are announcing 38 new names today, and about 28 seats remain pending,” the BNP secretary general said. “Some are reserved for our alliance partners, and a few require further decisions. We will announce the rest at the appropriate time.”
BNP had previously adopted a policy of nominating only one candidate per family. However, the party made an exception in this round. In the first phase, former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu was nominated for Tangail-2 (Bhuapur–Gopalpur). In the latest list, his younger brother, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku — former president of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal and currently BNP publicity secretary — has been nominated for Tangail-5 (Sadar).
