Boman Irani, who stepped behind the camera for the first time this year with his debut feature "The Mehta Boys", has revealed that he is already developing his next film as director. The veteran actor turns a year older tomorrow and says he is eager to push himself creatively.

Irani shared that he does not want to repeat the tone or style of his first film. "After making a family drama, I've promised myself that the next one will be completely different," he said. "An encouraging response to the first film doesn't mean I should stay in the same zone. I want to explore new genres and immerse myself in different cinematic landscapes."

2025 was also a milestone year for Irani's son, Kayoze Irani, who made his own directorial debut with "Sarzameen", featuring Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Speaking about their conversations during this period of transition, Irani noted the realities of filmmaking. "There's no easy path," he said. "Making a film is a long, demanding journey — from writing, to securing funding, to the battles of casting and budgeting. You invest everything you have, yet you must accept that not everyone will appreciate your work."

When asked which actors he hopes to direct, Irani hesitated to list names. "There are too many gifted actors I'd love to collaborate with," he said. "If I pick a few, the rest may feel ignored. But directing Mr Bachchan one day would be truly special — the idea of telling him how a scene should unfold is both thrilling and humbling."

Alongside directing, Irani added that nurturing new talent has become one of the most rewarding parts of his career, as he continues to mentor young writers through his creative initiatives.
