A motorcyclist, who was injured after being struck by a brick in his head in Shewrapara of Mirpur in the capital, died on Monday while undergoing treatment.
The deceased, identified as Sajid Chowdhury Rafi, 25, had been battling for his life for 13 days.
Sajid died at about 7:00am on Monday while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost.
‘We have kept Sajid’s body in the hospital mortuary. We have informed Kafrul police station about the matter,’ he added.
The family members said that the incident took place on the night of June 10 when Sajid was travelling on a moving motorcycle when someone threw a brick at him.
Rafi’s uncle Nur Hasan said, ‘The brick struck him and caused severe injuries. We admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he remained under treatment in the ICU.’
Rafi died 13 days later on Monday, he added.
Rafi’s family believed that the attack might not have been motivated by an attempted robbery and suspected that the miscreants might have carried out the attack because of a property-related dispute.
