Four members of a family died on Saturday while trying to rescue a goat that had fallen into an abandoned well at Madhupur in Tangail.

The incident took place in Telki village of the upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased are Babul Hadima,48, son of Chinon Hadima, his infant son Neymar Mrong, 11, his brother-in-law Ratan Nakrek, 28, son of Badal Nokrek and  brother-in-law Gabriel Nakrek 32, son of Karin nokrek of the Jolui village of Madhupur upazila in the district.

Madhupur fire service sub station officer Lavlu Tarafdar confirmed the incident.

He said that a baby goat fell into an abandoned well in Telki village in the morning. Later, while trying to retrieve the baby goat, one child fell into the well and died due to lack of oxygen. Later, three more members of the family died one by one while trying to rescue the child. The well is approximately 9-10 feet deep.

He further said that the bodies of the deceased were recovered after receiving the information.

Later, the bodies were handed over to the police. Among the deceased are a father and son and the remaining two are their relatives, he added.

Madhupur police station officer-in-charge AKM Fazlul Haque also confirmed the matter.
