The third meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday allocated 40 hours for discussions on the national budget for the 2026-27 financial year.

The finance minister is scheduled to place the BNP government’s first national budget of the current tenure before parliament on June 11. The budget session began on Sunday.

The committee meeting, held in the Cabinet Room of the JS Bhaban in the capital Dhaka, was chaired by speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.

Leader of the House and prime minister Tarique Rahman attended the meeting alongside committee members, including leader of the opposition Shafiqur Rahman, deputy leader of the opposition Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, finance minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, home minister Salahuddin Ahmed, law minister Md Asaduzzaman, local government minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, chief whip Nurul Islam and other members of the committee.

Deputy speaker Kayser Kamal also attended the meeting as a special invitee of the speaker.

The committee discussed the allocation of time for the second session of the 13th parliament, which is dedicated to the national budget for FY27.

According to the decisions made at the meeting, JS sittings will be held at 3:00pm each day, except on public holidays, and the second session of the 13th JS will conclude on July 9.

The committee also proposed holding two sittings a day from June 27 to June 30 to facilitate the completion of budget-related business.

The speaker was authorised to make any necessary changes to the timing of sittings and the number of working days, if required.

The meeting was informed that a total of 3,228 questions had been submitted for the session, including 191 for the prime minister and 3,037 for other ministers.

The JS also received 98 notices under Rule 71 seeking discussions on matters of urgent public importance, and 293 notices of resolutions under Rule 131.
